Frequently Asked Questions

What is a design-build remodel?

Evoke’s design-build approach means that we work with you directly through the entire process. We do not simply handle portions of the process and then hand you off to a partner or referral. Every project is unique. We work with our customers to define, design, refine and then build out the project. Our process ensures that each customer will have a unique and highly crafted remodel with expert design, construction and management. We prioritize communication so that your wishes and input are at the center of your home renovation.

What are the advantages of working with a design-build home remodeling contractor?

Our customers enjoy many advantages. Evoke’s design-build remodel approach means you benefit from the collaboration of an “in-house” team vs. working with a variety of different contractors. This helps our customers avoid getting into a self-project-management scenario. You don’t have to be an expert or manage your own remodel when you’ve got Evoke Custom Builders working for you.

Isn’t a design-build remodel more expensive than a traditional remodel?

Although it’s a common perception that design-build remodeling is more expensive, Evoke’s approach to design-build actually saves you money. When you work with a designer and contractor independently of one another, you are typically purchasing various products through each of them. Then the contractor applies their percentages into the entire cost of the project, resulting in a “double dip” at your expense. Because our homeowners do not pay the overhead that is standard when working directly with each different trade involved, they typically realize savings by taking this approach, which allows them to pay a single fee for their entire remodeling project.

Do I have to take the design-build approach to work with Evoke?

Absolutely not! For all those homeowners who want to be hands-on and design their own remodel, we allow you to be your own designer. And the best part? You’ll have the support of our resources right at your fingertips throughout the project.

What sets Evoke apart from other home remodeling contractors?

We work with the same, vetted, trusted subcontractors all the time. From preconstruction all the way through construction, we ensure that every trade that comes through your home is a true partner of Evoke. That means we aren’t simply hiring whoever is available to get the work done. You will always have our word that anyone we send to your home has been fully vetted by Evoke Custom Builders and worked with us on many other projects. In fact, most of our subcontractor partners have been with us for a decade or more.

How long does a kitchen remodel typically take?

As you’d expect, the time it takes to remodel your kitchen depends upon the scope of the project, the materials required, and the bandwidth of the trades and subcontractors doing the work. In general, a retrofit kitchen remodel (in which we are upgrading or modifying your existing structure with new appliances, cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc., to fit into your current layout) takes approximately 6 weeks.  A full kitchen remodel with structural changes can take 8-12 weeks. If you are doing a kitchen remodel that is part of a full home remodel, the duration of the project can be longer. We’re happy to talk with you to give you a custom estimate based on your needs and desires.

How much return on investment can I expect on a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most popular home improvement projects — and for good reason. On average, homeowners can expect a return on investment (ROI) of approximately 70-80% for a mid-range kitchen remodel. This means if you invest $20,000 in your kitchen renovation, you could potentially increase your home's resale value by $14,000-$16,000. An upscale kitchen remodel typically delivers an ROI of 60-70%. So, if you spend $100,000 on your remodel, you could increase your home value by $60,000-$70,000. The actual ROI can vary based on factors such as the quality of materials used, the local real estate market, and the overall design. Ultimately, homes with updated kitchens receive higher offers than those with kitchens that need updating. Buyers are generally willing to pay a premium for homes that don’t require renovations immediately upon moving in.

How much return on investment can I expect on a bathroom remodel?

Bathroom remodels are another high-impact improvement that can offer a solid return on investment. Typically, homeowners can expect to see an ROI of around 60-70% for a mid-range bathroom remodel. For instance, if you spend $10,000 on updating your bathroom, you might see an increase in your home's value of $6,000-$7,000. Again, the exact ROI will depend on factors such as the scope of the project, the materials chosen, and current market conditions.

How much return on investment can I expect on a home addition?

Adding extra space to your home can significantly boost its value and appeal. Homeowners can generally anticipate an ROI of 50-70% for a home addition. For example, if you invest $50,000 in adding a new room, you might see an increase in your home's resale value of $25,000-$35,000. The specific ROI will depend on the type of addition, the quality of construction, and the demand for larger homes in your area.
